Abstract

Regarding species and communities, macroalgae in the waters have a significant role in supporting an ecosystem. Indonesia has an abundant diversity of macroalgae species, but studies on macroalgae on ecological functions and their relation to climate change are still not widely studied. This review provides information and knowledge about the function of macroalgae for ecosystems and the environment, such as in ecological processes, ecosystem services, and ecological indicators, as well as their relation to climate change. Macroalgae can take a role in biomonitoring environmental changes and are essential to the association between species in an ecosystem. Therefore, an in-depth study of macroalgae concerning ecosystems and climate change needs to be studied more.
